My vision

A society where everyone feels ready to climb higher.

As a keen climber of ten years experience, I want our society to be more than just weekly sessions. I want it to be a society where we can make friends, improve skill and feel included.

01

More GOATED trips, socials and events

More GOATED socials, trips and events including internal competitions as well as trying some inter-soc and possibly inter-uni events.

GOATED trips would include going to new climbing walls more often like Vauxwall, WhiteSpider and WestWay to name a few; to introduce variety and help us climb up the v grades.

Some more activities could include parties, games nights, and possibly some non-climbing related outings - as well as any other activities we as a community vote for.

02

Remove spam in the group chat

I will create my own AI powered moderation bot that will scan messages from new members of the group-chat to verify they are not a spammer.

For privacy the bot will be run either locally or via an api to a paid for service which doesn't use the messages for training.

Will most likely be local, just depends on whether I can make sure its uptime is consistent.

03

Training to prepare for competitions

Run training sessions to help us climb the ranks in competitions.

I will get training qualifications over the summer holiday to allow me to provide the group with training sessions. I will look to see if it would be financially feasible to hire someone outside the club to help our more experienced climbers excel.

04

Welcome new members

Have beginner targeted sessions with more leaflets around campus to advertise.

Also introduce termly membership to make the group accessible to people want to join later in the year.

05

Run extra sessions on weekends

Run extra bouldering sessions on weekends for signed-off members, giving people more chances to climb and train around their timetable.

06

Build on the community

Build an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and introduce fun traditions, which we as a community can come up with using a poll.

Make the society more community led with polls to help decide on activities and future events.

07

Better communication

Revive the Discord server and try to have it live along-side the WhatsApp chat to make it easier for members to stay up to date with announcements.

Events will also be timetabled and posted on our social medias to keep people in the loop.

Will also look into setting up a texting system to notify people of important events and updates to our timetable if they sign up for it.

08

Try to increase funding

I will try to increase funding by organising fund-raising events like bake sales, quiz nights, and I will try to lobby the uni for more funding to allow for more training sessions.

Why me?

I care about making climbing accessible, social, and exciting.

As someone who's been climbing for 10 years, I believe climbing should be accessible and welcoming to everyone. My aim is to help our society grow while having a better quality of climbing session.

So, if you want a GOATED climbing experience you know who to vote for!
